Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, has been selected as India's official entry for the Best International Film category at the Academy Awards.

The film is a light-hearted satire set in rural India in 2001, focusing on two brides who accidentally get swapped during a train journey.

The film is co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Rao's Kindling Productions.

The film was selected by a 13-member committee, beating films like Animal, Kalki 2898 AD, Aattam, and Maharaja.
