NCP leader Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday night.

The attackers used a 9.9 mm pistol, firing six rounds during a noisy Durga Visarjan procession to mask the sound of gunshots; three bullets hit Siddique.

Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at 9:30 PM in critical condition but was declared dead at 11:27 PM despite resuscitation efforts.

Mumbai Police are probing various motives, including contract killing, business rivalry, and threats related to a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project.

Two suspects, Gurmel Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh, both in their 20s, have been arrested; a third suspect remains at large.

A fourth accused has been identified, and a fifth suspect, Pravin Lonkar—considered a conspirator—was arrested in Pune; he is believed to have helped plan the attack.

The accused had monitored Siddique's movements for over a month, conducting reconnaissance of his house and office premises.

A social media post claiming to be from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang took responsibility for the murder; Mumbai Police are verifying its authenticity.

Leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar expressed shock, condemning the attack and raising concerns about the state's law and order situation.
